Some games just come out of nowhere and suddenly become a topic of conversation in many places. If you love reading, deep characters, an intricate plot, seeing an amnesia character actually done well, and a unique setting you owe it to yourself to play it. ![]() It also has a chilling OST made by Mark Morgan (Fallout 1 & 2) that was famously made in about a week as they were tight for time. It is a RTWP D&D RPG in the vein of Baldur's Gate or Pillars of Eternity and so that might not be up everyone's alley, but honestly 95% of the game is story telling and conversation and reading and not the combat (unless you go out of your way to make it about the combat). This game actually made me think about the concepts it was trying to get across deeply. I've played through it 10 times total, own the game 3 times over (the original 4CD version, the 2CD version, and the EE version), and it took a few playthroughs to actually experience everything. Way of the Samurai 3 has the most endings of all the WotS games, with over 20+ different endings. Your choices effect the outcome of the story or an event. The Way of the Samurai series (A series I hold near and dear) is known for literally choosing your own adventure. You can even give your squads commands during battle. You can gear up your soldiers, level up, assign skill points, and create squads. You start out as a small band of mercs of whatever faction you want to be, building your army and fighting other armies to gain loot, and capture territory. Whether it's sandbox games, an RPG, or a game with multiple dialogue choices that changes the course of the story, it's games like these that give me a sense of adventure.
